Leeds is a cosmopolitan city with more than 750,000 residents living within the city boundaries. Given the official status of city in 1893, the area was largely rebuilt after World War II when Leeds experienced blanket bombing by German aircraft.

The cities excellent nightlife, with over 100 bars, 75 restaurants and 25 nightclubs draw many tourists to the area as well as internationally renowned bands and acts. The fantastic range of shopping will keep the general tourist entertained whilst the more sophisticated traveller will be absorbed by fascinating architecture lining the streets.

With over 1.4 million tourists per year who usually stay over night and 18.4 million visiting on day trips, Leeds is a city looking towards its future. Currently sixteen skyscrapers are being built in the city, drastically changing the skyline.

Natives of Leeds are known as "Loiners" and are exceptionally proud of Leeds United, the cities proud football team. Although the city played in the Premiership league for 12 action-packed and exciting years they were relegated in 2004 and now play at England’s third tear level.
