Ilford, located in the county of Essex has experienced tremendous growth over the years beginning with the arrival of the Great Western Railway to the town in the eighteen hundreds. Today the town of 41,300 residents still experiences the thrill of the railway, however the cargo transported through the city has changed considerably and now consists of nuclear waste, twice a week.

The city, although relatively safe, will still have your heart beating with excitement if you choose to walk the streets late at night. Muggings are fairly common, however if you choose your route carefully you’ll arrive at your destination intact.

Unlike many other towns in the area not many ancient monuments survive in the borough, mainly due to rapid modern development. Ilford’s infrastructure was largely damaged during the blitz of World War Two contributing to the loss of many Victorian houses.

The town is, however, renowned for the firm of Ilford Ltd, a global company specialising in photographic material. Ilford was chosen as the company’s headquarters in 1879 due to the cleanliness of its air and its small town qualities.
