Doncaster, with a population of over 67,900 people, is a town in South Yorkshire in England. Doncaster, located 20 miles from Sheffield, is home to the famous Doncaster race course. The transport industry has played an important role in the development and heritage of Doncaster. The stagecoach trade of the 17th and 18th centuries generated the wealth that built the town centre. It was then the horse breeding for the stagecoach trade that gave rise to the Doncaster Racecourse.
The Doncaster Racecourse is home to the St Leger, the oldest classic horserace in the world. The racecourse has just undergone a £34 million redevelopment, the now 5-storey grandstand includes private hospitality sweets, a wide range of catering outlets, bars, and dining areas making it one of the world’s premier racecourses.
Doncaster’s sporting doesn’t stop at just horseracing. The city is home to the Doncaster Rovers Football Club, a very successful female football team, a Rugby League team, a Rugby Union team, a field hockey team, a lawn tennis club, an athletics club, and even an Angling club.
