More about Belfast

Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland, with a population of over 276,400 people is the second biggest city on the island of Ireland behind Dublin. A city once torn by strife, Belfast has now become a vibrant thriving tourist city located between a series of picturesque hills one side and sandy beaches on the other. This growing city offers something for everyone with its impressive architecture, charming pubs, top class shopping, and an extensive list of action packed sporting activities for any eager adventurer.

The Giant’s Causeway, situated on the northern coastline, has been Northern Irelands top tourist attraction for years. This world heritage listed site is situated along the famous coastal causeway, a picturesque stretch of rugged coastline. A mass of basalt columns tightly packed together, forming stepping stones, stretches all the way from the cliff to the coast disappearing under the water. There are over 40 000 of these columns with the tallest standing over 40ft tall. For years tourists have been drawn to this heritage site to view the geological phenomenon and hear the local myths and stories that go with it.

Belfast’s striking opera house, built in 1894, is the centre point for a city brewing with culture. The opera house holds host to events all year round, including musicals, concerts, dramas, ballets, and comedies. The cities cultural events spans further than just their opera house, Belfast holds Ireland’s largest arts festival with art, jazz, blues, dance, and films from around the world congregating in one location to showcase their talents. Belfast is also lucky to host an internationally recognised film festival, each year film types come together to view a collection of films from all around the world at the Belfast film festival.

Due to the cities perfect location between hills and coastline, Belfast runs a large variety of outdoor activities including; fishing, golfing, rock climbing, surfing, scuba diving, water skiing, and mountain biking. People can trek through natural woodlands at Glanariff Forest Park, or admire the open view from the rugged coastline.
